Dear  Parents

I hope you and your family are well.  Here is a reminder of some upcoming events:

Debate: Congratulations to our debating team of Eimear Beazley, Ciara Randles, Aisling Reidy,  Áine O’Connor,  Zena Shine and Filip Korzec who  have now progressed to the County Final .  They  will take on the reigning All-Ireland Champions Ardfert on  Monday 16th December at 10.00a.m. in the Education Centre Tralee. The motion up for debate is “Beauty Pageants help children with their self  esteem”.

 

Biodiversity  Day: On Monday 16th December  Rachel Boyle will give a presentation to all classes from 2nd to 6th class in the afternoon.

Request: If any parent has educational toys that they no longer require which they are willing to donate to  the school we would be very grateful to receive them. We require educational toys such as complete  jigsaws, construction toys e.g. Lego, K’nex , dress up clothes, a kitchen, fact books, Connect 4, Operation, Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, Draughts etc.

Launch of CD:  Due to the tremendous success of the Schools’ Folklore Project  South Kerry Development Partnership along with   Béaloideas Chiarraí  are to hold a formal launch of the CD of the Project  on Wednesday next December 11th, starting at 4.00p.m. in the Muckross Garden Restaurant, Muckross House, Killarney. 6th class did projects and were interviewed. 4th 5th and 6th class played music on the CD.  Weeshie Fogarty will be present and is also planning to do an additional programme on the project. The order has gone in for these CD’s.

Wednesday 11th December:  On Wednesday 11th December the Parents’ Association are organising a flag day, in Killarney as a fundraiser for the school.  Children from 4th 5th and 6th classes will be supporting the fundraising by carol singing from 1.45p.m. – 3.45 p.m. at the Market Cross. Please arrange to drop and collect your child.(see permission slip)  Parents are very welcome to join in singing with the children. Children should dress warmly and wear a Santa hat if possible. The sixth class  pupils going to the CD launch above should wear their full school uniforms. Please  find attached a permission slip  for the carol singing and CD launch which is to be signed and returned to the class teacher.

Thursday 12th December  – Christmas Celebration/Open Day.  Parents and grandparents are very welcome to come to school on Thursday 12th December for our Christmas celebration and our open day. We will  have a visit from Santa. We also welcome any prospective parents and their children We are very grateful to the Parents’ Association who are providing refreshments afterwards.

 

This is a rough timetable for the  12th December starting at 11.00a.m.

  • 11a.m Mrs. Foley, Ms. O’Reilly’ and Ms O’Connell’s  classes (Junior and  Senior  Infants, First Second and Third classes    “ Christmas Jingles “.
  • Followed by  Mr. Looney’s 4th and 5th class:   “Music and Song”.
  • Followed by  Mrs. O’Sullivan’s Class :   “Nativity Nightmares”
  • Refreshments at 12.30p.m. approx.

There will be a raffle held during the performance.

All the children in the school will get a chance to see each others’ performances before 12th  December.

  • Mrs. Foley’s 2nd and 3rd classes:  Educational  Nature Trail, visit to  Santa and  Cathedral  Crib on Tuesday 17th December.
  • Parents as Volunteers:  We welcome the help of parents e.g. helping to supervise swimming lessons after Christmas.  Garda Vetting of volunteers is now a requirement of schools.  If you are willing to be Garda vetted to help out with school activities as they arise please contact the secretary for a form. If you are already vetted and are willing to help please let us know also.  Swimming lessons will begin for 5th and 6th class on Thursday 9th January.

St .Vincent de Paul Collection:  If you would like to donate non perishable goods please bring them into the school by Friday 14th December.  These will be given to the St. Vincent Paul Society to distribute to the less well off in our community.

Friday 20th   December: School will close for Christmas Holidays at 12 noon  and will reopen on Tuesday 7th January.

Saturday 21st   December: Pupils from 5th and  6th class will visit St. Columbanus’ Home and Killarney Community Hospital to entertain the patients.  We will meet at 1p.m.  outside Killarney Community  Hospital.  Please collect the children outside St. Columbanus’ Home at 3.30p.m.

 Cake Sale: The Parents’ Association are holding a cake sale to raise funds for the school on Friday 20th December from 11 o’clock  in the hall.  Your baking and contribution is very welcome.  Please leave all baking in the hall on Friday morning. The Parents’ Association are  encouraging all parents to participate. The  Parents’ Association have asked teachers to give each class an opportunity to buy buns/cakes , so children may like to bring a little money with them and teachers will take them to the hall in turn to purchase their bun/cake. N.B. should any child have a food allergy please complete the  form overleaf and give to the class teacher. The school and Board of Management really appreciate the effort and time everybody puts into these occasions.

Enrolments: If you have any family member or know of any child intending to start in Scoil Bhríde, Loreto in September 2014 please ask them to come to our open day on Thursday 12th December. The best P.R. for the school is word of mouth from happy parents and happy children. Please spread the word.
