Hurling: South Kerry
Juvenile Hurling Board is in the process of introducing Hurling Coaching to the National Schools in the greater Killarney area. Each school is being asked to contribute €500 to the Board by selling tickets for a draw. The prize is a Road Bike valued at €749.00 sponsored by O’Sullivan Cycles Killarney. All the proceeds of the draw will go towards the purchase of Hurling Coaching Equipment which will be jointly owned by all the Schools. The Coaching Equipment will consist of new hurleys (all sizes), New Helmets and Sliotars. All children will receive an introduction to basic skills of hurling. Dedicated Coaches will be assigned to the school to provide at least 2 – 6 week coaching blocks to all classes. Here in Loreto we are asking each child to donate €5 (€10 per family) instead of asking families to sell a card of tickets. Each child will then be given two tickets for the raffle. Please put money in an envelope marked “Hurling Coaching” and give to the secretary.
Enrolments: If you have any family member or know of any child intending to start school in Scoil Bhríde, Loreto in September 2014 please ask them to complete a registration and an enrolment form.
There will be a number of choir practices in the Cathedral prior to the Confirmation Ceremony. Lifts to and from these practices would be appreciated. The practices planned are:
Friday 31st January at 11.30a.m.
Thursday 13th February at 11.30a.m. (we also have swimming that day.)
Tuesday 4th March at 11.30a.m.
The above dates are subject to change.
Sacrament of Confirmation: Sixth class will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Friday 7th March in St. Mary’s Cathedral at 3.30p.m. School will close at 12 noon on that day. We are very grateful to some of the children in 4th and 5th class who are participating in a parish choir on the day.
The Service of Light: The Service of Light will take place in school on Tuesday 25th February at 7.30p.m. Could pupils please bring their Baptismal Candles into school. The service also includes the pledge -a promise to abstain from alcoholic drink until eighteen years of age and never take drugs. It is optional. Please discuss it with your child beforehand. If some of the 5th class are available to help with the choir for the Service of Light we would be delighted.
Sponsor: The role of sponsor is very important. Please help your child to choose his/her sponsor and to discuss the saint’s name they are taking for Confirmation.
Donation to Charity: The Bishop has asked again that children contribute a little of the money they receive for their Confirmation to those less fortunate than themselves. Candidates are invited to make a contribution to the work of Kerry Missionaries. We also give locally to the children in St. Mary of the Angels School when they host our visit on 6th June 2014 ( weather permitting).
Sacrament of Reconciliation/Penance: Children will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation/Penance in school a week or two before Confirmation.
Confirmation Booklets: Families generally take three booklets – one for the child, one for the sponsor and one for the parents). The cost is €5 for three booklets.
School Uniforms: Full school uniform must be worn to the Service of Light and the Confirmation Ceremony.
If you have any queries on school related matters do not hesitate to make an appointment to see the class teacher or myself.
