Dear Parents,
I hope you and your family are well. Here is a reminder of some upcoming events:
Coffee Morning: The Parents’ Association are hosting a Coffee Morning in aid of Scoil Bhríde, Loreto N.S in Victoria House Hotel on Friday 28th November from 10a.m. to 12 noon. There will be a raffle and if anybody would like to donate spot prizes please drop them into the school office. Please support this fundraiser.
Christmas in Killarney Parade November 28th 2014: We have been allocated the float with the theme “Toy Story”. Children will march after the float and should dress warmly and colourfully in line with the theme. Parents must walk with their children for safety reasons. Please assemble with your child at 6.30p.m. in the Fairhill carpark and this is also the collection point after the parade. The Christmas in Killarney Committee have asked you to be mindful of road closures. Dress up costumes: If you have a dress up costume that is too small for your child you might like to donate it to the school where it can be given to another child for the parade or/and added to the dress up box for infants.
Quiz: Pupils from 6th class are invited to a quiz in St. Brendan’s College from 10.15a.m to 12.45p.m. on Wednesday 3rd December. Lifts to and from the quiz would be appreciated.
Primary Debating: First Round 2nd December Loreto V St. Brendan’s N.S. Blennerville.
Monday 8th December: School will be closed on Monday 8th December.
Wednesday 10th December: On Wednesday 10th December the Parents’ Association are organising a flag day, in Killarney as a fundraiser for the school. Children from 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes will be supporting the fundraising by carol singing from 1.45p.m. – 3.45 p.m. at the Market Cross. Please arrange to drop and collect your child.(see permission slip) Parents are very welcome to join in singing with the children. Children should dress warmly and wear a Santa hat if possible.
Friday 12th December – Christmas Celebration/Open Day. Parents and grandparents are very welcome to come to school on Thursday 12th December for our Christmas celebration and our open day. We also welcome any prospective parents and their children. We are very grateful to the Parents’ Association who are providing refreshments afterwards.
This is a rough timetable for the 12th December starting at 9.30a.m.
• 9.30a.m. Ms.O’Connell’s class” The First Christmas – A Reflection” in Ms. O’Connell’s class room.
• 10a.m. to 10.20a.m. Ms. Looney, Ms. O’Reilly’ “ Christmas Jingles “. In Assembly Hall.
• Tea and refreshments in Assembly Hall provided by the Parents’ Association.
• 10.30a.m., to 11.00a.m. Mr. Looney’s 3rd and 4th class: “Music and Song”. In Assembly Hall
• 11.00a.m. to 12 noon Mrs. O’ Sullivan’s 5th and 6th class Class Play:”The Peace Child” in Assembly Hall
The Parents’ Association are organising a raffle on the day
Parents as Volunteers: We welcome the help of parents e.g. helping to supervise swimming lessons after Christmas. Garda Vetting of volunteers is now a requirement of schools. If you are willing to be Garda vetted to help out with school activities as they arise please contact the secretary for a form. If you are already vetted and are willing to help please let us know also. Swimming lessons will begin for 5th and 6th class on Thursday 8th January.
St .Vincent de Paul Collection: If you would like to donate non perishable goods please bring them into the school by Thursday 11th December. There will be a box inside the front door of the school for all dry non perishable goods. These will be given to the St. Vincent Paul Society to distribute to the less well off in our community.
Friday 19th December: School will close for Christmas Holidays at 12 noon and will reopen on Monday 5th January 2015.
6th January 2015: Pupils from 3rd to 6th class will be attending 9.30a.m. mass in Muckross Church. Please drop your child to the Church in the morning. Lifts back to school after Mass would be appreciated.
Saturday 20th December: Pupils from 5th and 6th class will visit St. Columbanus’ Home and Killarney Community Hospital to entertain the patients. We will meet at 1p.m. outside Killarney Community Hospital. Please collect the children outside St. Columbanus’ Home at 3.30p.m.
School Contribution: Many thanks to all who have paid the school contribution and a gentle reminder to the families who have yet to pay.
Enrolments: If you have any family member or know of any child intending to start in Scoil Bhríde, Loreto in September 2014 please invite them to our open day on Thursday 12th December. The best P.R. for the school is word of mouth from happy parents and happy children. Please spread the word.
If you have any queries on school related matters do not hesitate to make an appointment to see the class teacher or myself. Again wishing everybody a happy and peaceful Christmas. I hope you enjoy a relaxing break with the family.
Confirmation dates
Saturday 22nd November Commitment Mass in the Cathedral at 6.15p.m. Children present Certificates of Commitment with three promises for the year.
31st January 2015 Mass in the Cathedral at 6.15p.m.
There will be a talk for parents of Confirmation children in February 2015.
Practices for Confirmation Tuesday 3rd February 2015, Thursday 5th March 2015 and Thursday 12th March 2015 from 11.15a.m. to 1.00p.m. Lifts to and from the Cathedral would be appreciated.
Confirmation Ceremony will take place on Friday 20th March at 11.00a.m. in St. Mary’s Cathedral.
